The new Action Studio enables significantly faster and more efficient creation of nurturing campaigns. A change in contact information can also serve as a nurturing trigger, which may have resulted from an event as simple as prospect qualification in a connected CRM system.
Action Studio then uses a rich set of actions to push prospects forward in the buying cycle. These actions can include, but aren't limited to, sending timed nurturing emails, sending sales executive alerts, updating external webinar systems and sending sales qualified leads directly into the sales team's CRM system.
With the integration of Action Studio in Marketing View, marketers now have a complete set of visual tools that enable them to drag and drop events and actions on screen, add prospect filtering rules, and easily create branching paths depending on prospect action at any given point in time. Expert Advice Reveals How to Get the Most From Marketing Automation in 2013

"It is no secret that getting a marketing automation system up, running, and contributing to your bottom line takes both implementing technology and changing processes," said Chris Frank, marketing director, TreeHouse Interactive. "But for many marketers, getting over this hurdle is where they stop. If your New Year's marketing resolution is to make the most of your automation investment, you need to assess your entire marketing picture—from technical capabilities and database cleanup to business processes and metrics. This will enable you to truly maximize your marketing return on investment this year."
Following are 10 New Year "must do's" to optimize marketing automation ROI:
- Integrate what is most important – One of the core benefits of marketing automation is the ability to qualify, nurture and distribute leads. Being effective here means integrating marketing automation with your CRM system. By integrating these, you can take leads that have fallen out of the sales process or leads that have converted to customers and put them on a nurturing track for either re-engagement or customer retention. For online retailers, shopping cart integration is also important because it will better enable you to power up-sell, cross-sell and customer loyalty efforts.
- Leverage anonymous web visits to create leads – It's important to evaluate your use of marketing automation web analytics and behavioral tracking. Some systems give you the ability to see deep into website behavior and identify companies that have demonstrated interest in your content as anonymous visitors. This information can then be linked to services like data.com or ZoomInfo, which allow you to find and download contacts at these companies based on the information they have interacted with on your site. Analyzing this and other behaviors can help you infuse new qualified prospects into your database and sales funnel.
- Connect forms/landing pages – Many marketers, even though they are using a marketing automation system, are not connecting campaign elements effectively so they can see campaign return on investment (ROI). Be sure your forms and landing pages are linked to campaign elements in your CRM and marketing automation systems for reporting and are correctly linked to email communication. Be sure to also take down forms or landing pages related to campaigns that are no longer active.
- Remove the dead weight – Most marketing automation solution providers charge based on the size of your database. As such, it makes good sense to remove contacts that you either cannot reach or who have no interest in what you do. Remove not just hard bounces—totally invalid addresses—but also consistent non-clickers, non-openers and non-purchasers for online retailers. If you feel some of these are still valuable contacts, first try an engagement campaign to target them and cut the ones that do not respond.
- Clean up your data – The more contacts you can categorize correctly and provide normalized data for, the better your chances of producing the numbers necessary to reach your goals. Be sure your marketing automation system supports the ability to mass update contacts and then categorize as much as possible. Drill down into data and categorize by contact type, product interest, titles, vertical markets, roles, etc. The more you can categorize, the better you can target your campaigns. More targeted campaigns have consistently demonstrated higher response rates and revenue.
- Define your leads – It is essential to have an agreed upon lead definition that is constantly updated through regular meetings with your sales team. This will help you know what qualifying questions need to be asked by marketing at what point in the buying cycle. Ultimately, this practice contributes to better qualified leads and produces the revenue you are really going after.
- Implement effective list management – Don’t waste time creating lists in your CRM system that aren’t automatically synced into your marketing automation system. An information sync should be up and running or you will have increasingly difficult problems with targeting. Ideally, upload lists to your marketing automation system first. Place contacts on the correct nurturing and communication path, and send only qualified leads on to sales. There are always exceptions, but if you don’t get contacts on the right subscriptions and nurturing paths or if you clog your CRM system with a large amount of unqualified leads and contacts, you’re asking for future headaches.
- Don't 'set and forget' the nurturing process – Nothing is worse than a prospect getting a timed nurturing email for a product that is no longer available, a promotion that is no longer running or a white paper download that is out of date. Frequently revisit your nurturing paths and be sure that the communication is relevant and actionable.
- Remember to focus on what is most important – Be sure that every campaign has real dollars tied to it, and ensure that your marketing automation and/or CRM system can identify what revenue is being generated by your efforts. No matter how short or long your sales process is, setting your systems up to report this data is essential for making better marketing decisions down the road and getting buy-in from executive and financial teams for your initiatives.
- Get access to an immediate view of success – Having said revenue is the most important metric, be sure that you have clear and insightful reporting that is more immediate in nature when looking at campaign effectiveness. Be sure your marketing automation system automatically delivers metrics on open rates, click-through rates, landing page traffic, landing page conversion rates, number of social shares, conversion sources and so on. Establish base metrics for each and see how new campaigns compare. If you’re not set up to get these campaign metrics now, review the execution process within your system.
Bonus Tip: Review your content marketing effectiveness – For many companies, content marketing is now playing a key role in moving buyers through the buying cycle. Review what content is being consumed by buyers in your marketing automation system. Identify high and underperforming pieces. Is there a pattern in successful buying cycles in terms of specific content, type of content or even the format of content? Use this information to help fuel better content creation and more effective nurturing.

This has produced rapid return on investment in less than six months.
Based in Memphis, Tenn., TECHT manufactures a range of paintball-related products, which it markets online to nearly 1,000 paintball retailers around the world. In the paintball industry, new products are constantly being released to market. The challenge is to make customers aware of them. It can be a never-ending battle for companies like TECHT just to get the word out and keep customers informed. With a small marketing team of less than four, TECHT needed to improve processes for more effective marketing campaigns.

Partner Marketplace
The new Reseller View Partner Marketplace module enables channel teams to produce extensive partner listings that let customers not only find the right partner, but see how other customers rate them and learn more about them through a library of multi-media tools. It includes advanced search capabilities and dynamic maps that allow customers to easily find the right partner for their needs. It also has sophisticated tools to allow partners to manage their own listings.

Enhanced Lead Distribution

No additional software or training is needed, and leads and opportunities are seamlessly integrated with Salesforce CRM. Lead notifications to partners and reporting are automated in real time.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – May 15, 2012 – TreeHouse Interactive™ (www.treehousei.com), the technology leader in on-demand marketing automation and partner relationship management (PRM) solutions, today announced significant growth of its business-to-consumer (B2C) user base for the company's marketing automation solution, Marketing View. B2C Marketing View users now represent nearly one-third of TreeHouse's marketing automation customer base.
Marketing View's integration with the Salesforce Sales Cloud opportunity object—and the added ability to target prospective customers based on products purchased—has been a major factor in B2C customer growth. In addition, the product's enhanced eCommerce solution integration for companies not using a CRM system in the sales process is attractive to B2C users.
"We've seen a significant uptick in B2C customers," said Erich Flynn, CEO, TreeHouse Interactive. "Tight economic times have forced eCommerce reliant companies to become smarter about their marketing and specifically about how they use nurturing communication to increase customer lifetime value (CLV). The Salesforce Sales Cloud opportunity object integration was announced earlier this year at the Online Marketing Summit in San Diego, California. It allows for sophisticated nurturing and marketing automation using values from opportunity object fields such as sales stage, vertical market or product purchased. This enables B2C companies to create intelligent customer service, up-sell and cross-sell communication based on prospective customer behavior.

Type of data captured includes items such as exact products purchased, dollar amount spent, number of purchases within a specific period, purchase ROI by email campaign, and more.

The company is 40 percent ahead of record-breaking 2011 Q1 revenue and attributes the growth to new partner marketing enablement features and deeper integration with customer relationship management (CRM) software.
It was the company's best first quarter ever, both in terms of new customer acquisition and revenue. New PRM customers include companies such as VMWare's Mozy Division, Syncsort, Internap, and Silver Peak.
"We're seeing a significant increase in demand for PRM solutions," said Erich Flynn, CEO, TreeHouse Interactive. "Expanding our CRM integrations and the launch of our new partner marketing enablement technologies has created increased interest and revenue. TreeHouse has deepened its integration with Salesforce CRM, and now supports PRM integration down to the Salesforce Sales Cloud Professional Edition—an industry first aimed at growing channel companies. While tracking, scoring and targeting leads based on individual behavior has been a staple of most high-end marketing automation systems, achieving this on a company level has been difficult, if not impossible. The new functionality in Marketing View is designed for companies who sell business-to-business, and rely on databases where tracking by individual behavior is limited to revealing only a partial profile of interest. Now marketers can effectively target within the context of a business entity, where there are often multiple contributors to a buying decision.

Company-Based Behavioral Tracking, Scoring, Targeting and Nurturing

The new Reveal™ Web Analytics functionality in the software delivers powerful Web tracking and targeting functionality, never before available, to achieve greater insights into online prospect behavior, engage prospects faster and accelerate the sales pipeline. In addition, new social media integration capabilities enable companies to more effectively execute cohesive marketing campaigns across channels.
Reveal™ Web Analytics
Although some existing solutions are able to track individual website visitor behavior, this capability is dependent on visitors having completed an online form in the past. While useful up to a point, the vast majority of website visitors go unidentified and company level behavioral data goes uncaptured in any meaningful way. Most marketers now believe that waiting to engage individual prospects and prospect companies until after a form is filled out is too late. Marketing View addresses this challenge with new Reveal™ Web Analytics functionality.
In addition to tracking known individual behavior on websites, Reveal™ Web Analytics also enables separate tracking of known and unknown company visits to websites, and allows for meaningful prospect targeting and nurturing. With Reveal™ Web Analytics, individual contact histories now contain individual page views and company level page views. Individual views are those directly attributable to a specific contact. Company views are attributed to all contacts in the database who share the domain of the visiting company. Individual and company views can be used collectively for nurturing, targeting and lead scoring purposes.
Reveal™ Web Analytics goes one step further, however, by also tracking unknown company visits. Marketers can now view dashboards that display all companies that have visited their site, but for whom no contacts exist in their database. As a result, marketers can more effectively purchase or research contacts who may be visiting their site with real interest.

Social Media sites such as Facebook do not allow robust forms and landing pages like those produced with major marketing automation systems to be placed on their sites. The new Facebook Forms functionality in Marketing View automatically generates compatible code so marketers can easily place their forms on Facebook pages. The new technology allows companies to integrate Facebook into their promotional plans and extend the reach of campaigns in ways not previously possible.

As a result, marketers can nurture prospects immediately and eliminate having to export registrants from their webinar system and import them into their marketing automation system. The features significantly improve capabilities for form and landing reporting and extend the usefulness of connected systems by virtue of new integration possibilities. This enables complex targeting and nurturing to be carried out quickly and the effectiveness of campaign efforts to be measured.
Integrated Landing Page and Form Analytics
TreeHouse's Marketing View offers the most robust, yet easy to use form/landing page builder available in demand generation solutions. Its unique functionality includes the ability to:
- Restrict campaign participation by database segment
- Tie forms and landing pages to personalized direct mail codes
- Gate forms, landing pages and microsites based on custom codes/contact info
- Make forms and landing pages available based on date
- Make forms and landing pages available based on number of submissions
- Combine AND/OR/NOT logic in answers to facilitate automation
New form and landing page analytics add to this unique set of capabilities. Today, in order to see which URLs refer prospects to landing pages, a marketer has to manually correlate website analytics and demand generation efforts. In most cases, visitor data is not even possible to collect because forms are typically hosted by a demand generation vendor.
The new analytics capabilities of Marketing View integrate form visits, conversions, abandonments and referral URLs directly into form reports. As a result, when landing pages and emails are shared through social media or other means, marketers can see whether Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook or other sites are responsible for conversions and how many. This is critical for determining how effective content marketing, virality and additional online marketing efforts are in converting traffic into prospects and leads. New form analytics are created automatically and potentially eliminate the need to integrate technology from multiple parties for conversion reporting.

Web Services
TreeHouse also breaks new ground with Web Services in the new release of Marketing View. Because Marketing View plays a key role in business infrastructure, customers are integrating it with systems such as CRM, product registration, and support. Unlike existing integration solutions, which allow for a small subset of data to be transported between systems, Marketing View Web Services allows for the submission and/or retrieval of any standard or custom contact information, in addition to form, landing page or survey data. This means external systems can be set up to launch nurturing campaigns through the change and subsequent submission of data to Marketing View. The new Web Services are well documented and easy for almost any level of programmer to use.

Salesforce.com Selective Overwrite
Last year, TreeHouse Interactive announced its Basic and Advanced Salesforce Integration for Marketing View, which is currently available on the AppExchange. The Advanced integration allows for the bi-directional flow of information between TreeHouse Interactive's Marketing View and Salesforce.com. It enables sales initiated nurturing, marketing initiated nurturing and marketing process automation based on the changes in data housed in either Salesforce.com and/or Marketing View.
The new selective overwrite capability gives customers a finer level of control over which data is pushed from a landing page or form into Salesforce. It does this by allowing marketers to choose whether or not they want to overwrite individual lead or contact object fields. For example, once contacts or leads are entered into the CRM, a company may not want certain details such as a phone number to be changed, even if the contact subsequently responds to a marketing campaign. By using the selective overwrite capability, marketers can ensure that if data exists in the field, it is not overwritten while passing data if none is present.
GoToWebinar Integration
For marketers who host online events through GoToWebinar, Marketing View now integrates with the service. This integration allows each system to do what it does best. When registrants provide information via a Marketing View form, it is submitted directly to their marketing database with appropriate information sent to GoToWebinar for registration. In this way, Marketing View can be used for reporting, marketing automation, lead qualification, lead distribution, campaign management and ROI, integration with CRM systems and future campaign targeting. GoToWebinar is simultaneously used to run the webinar and to send customized log in links and reminders to registrants.

Download Manager Improves Management of Downloadable Website Resources
Marketers have traditionally had difficulty in understanding which downloadable resources on their website are the most productive in terms of generating leads. They also struggle with how to gate access to content. Too big of a gate leads to too few leads; too small of a gate leads to a lack of information and unqualified leads. The new Download Manager within Marketing View has struck the perfect balance. It enables marketers to manage the hosting of downloadable website resources. Any number of resources can then be associated to a single landing page. A visitor need only fill out the form once to have access to all associated resources. Marketing View, however, enables tracking of each resource downloaded, as well as scoring based each of the downloads. Remote Forms Offer Greater Flexibility and Control for Landing Pages

A downfall of many demand generation and marketing automation systems is the necessity of the demand generation system to host all forms and landing pages. Traditionally, marketers want to use a vanity URL or their own company URL for landing pages instead of being forced to use a long URL supplied by their demand generation vendor. There are also times when companies want to build a landing page or micro-site for use by their partners or for a co-marketing program. The new functionality includes Advanced Document Management, improved Google Analytics and a new interactive Partner View Heat Map.
Reseller View is the only multi-tiered PRM solution available that allows separate navigation, features and content to be delivered to different levels of partners. With the addition of Advanced Document Management, companies can now make documents available to partners based on specific elements of partner profiles and accept, as well as route partner document notifications to the appropriate people internally. For example, support, marketing and financial documents often need to be made available to just a subset of employees at both the company and the partner based on their area of responsibility. New Reseller View functionality enables this to happen easily.
TreeHouse customer VacationRoost (www.vacationroost.com), a leading high-end vacation rental portal, has put this functionality to use in a unique way with its 800+ supplier partners. Instead of manually collecting rate cards, pictures and other important documents from each supplier via email, they have automated the process by using Reseller View's Advanced Document Management. Suppliers see what profile areas require updating when they log into the supplier portal site, upload the information, and appropriate VacationRoost personnel are notified that the documents have been uploaded. The amount of time required to gather information for updating supplier partner profiles has been reduced from several hundred hours to a fraction of that time.
Improved Google (GOOG) Analytics is also part of the new Reseller View functionality. While Reseller View has always been integrated with leading Web analytics providers like Google and Omniture, it has taken the Google relationship further in the latest release. In addition to providing Web analytics data for partner portals, the improved integration gives detailed document usage statistics. Reseller View PRM users can now see and rank documents by how often they are downloaded by partners. They can also see which partners downloaded which documents. This makes future content and content marketing decisions easier.
The Partner View Heat Map is the third addition to Reseller View, and allows channel managers to have greater visibility into how their partners are dispersed geographically. Channel managers can visually drill down to states and metro areas to view data on specific partners and their locations. The Partner View Heat Map also enables channel managers to visualize their partner network using filters for partner type or level, which supports strategic decision-making related to network expansion. Partner search data can be easily exported. Currently, the map covers the United States, but will be expanded in future releases.

The new functionality, called Talk It Up™, enables customers to capture fresh interest beyond their existing databases and create opportunities for both future targeting and nurturing campaigns.
Talk It Up™ features include the ability to share any email promotion or landing page via Facebook™, Twitter™, MySpace™, LinkedIn™ and other social media. To share the link to the landing page or online version of email, users simply add a token to the form or email via a mouse click.
